    The piano and her soulful vocals run like a thread through her new album, which flirts with both pop and a touch of jazz and evokes film music. It is only logical that Marie Chain's genre mix breaks boundaries just like she does herself: the glamour of vintage soul and the emotionality of blues meet the lightness of house in her music. The sounds of the 50s and 60s, such as Ray Charles or Etta James, inspired her as much as the sound of the 90s. That this doesn't have to be a contradiction is proven by the artist on her new album with the fitting title: "Freedom". "For me, 2020 is the year of breaking free from societal norms and oppression," says Marie Chain. "With my album, I want to inspire people to live their own freedom autonomously - especially now, it is important."
